Behavioural Covenant for Foothills Presbytery

As the members of Foothills Presbytery,

both lay representatives and ministry personnel,

and as followers of Jesus, People of the Way,

we commit to working together for the glory  of God

and for the purpose of serving God's mission in our presbytery and in

    the world.

In our communication, we commit to clarity and honesty

by building relationships with one another

in which there is space and permission for each person to be

    carefully heard,

by speaking from an "I" position without blaming others,

by seeking to learn from one another,

by being respectful in our speech and in our responses to one another

and by listening together for the Holy Spirit.

In our work together, we commit to

working with compassion,

respecting our leaders and officers in the work they do on our behalf,

honouring the diversity of gifts and skills of clergy and lay, young and

    old,

following the rules and procedures of the Manual of the United Church

    of Canada,

and being open and welcoming of newcomers in our midst.

In solving problems together, we commit to

acknowledging that we can't remain neutral,

keeping an open mind,

going directly to a person with whom we are having a problem as a first

    step  (Matthew 18:15-17)

and being grounded in humility and in respect for each other.

As the community that forms Foothills Presbytery, we commit to

respecting confidentiality,

looking for the opportunities, and the possibilities and the joy,

sharing in fun and delight together,

being willing to share our gifts and to take risks in doing so,

participating in the work of Presbytery,

and being faithful to the decisions made by Presbytery.
